What's Due on Wednesday for Joe Remling, ai3 and MODA

Joe Remling from ai3 will be in class at 12noon to review your videos for the MODA Exhibition. He is expecting to see all 10 teams work.
Please make sure you have the following on Wednesday:

-Show him what you have so far regarding your creative team concepts.

-Please make sure you have copied your prototype videos to the server AND also have a copy of it to send along with him on a CD/DVD so he can show MODA.

-I will need a short concise creative brief with several frames of your concept to send to Joe on Monday after class so he can be prepared for Wednesday. Put this in pdf format.

That's it! These are looking great so keep up the energy. Again, it is up to him to select all or a few of those he wishes to use in the exhibition. Regardless of what happens you will all have some amazing client work (Museum Quality) for your individual portfolios!

Wonderful Movie Poster Site

Unfortunate name for a site but a wonderful site you should submit your own designs to for others to see. Please POST your weekend teaser posters to your site asap.

A Visit to MODA: Work in Progress

A great visit on Wednesday for an incredible project with MODA.
Please bring your storyboards (sketchings or printed) on Monday so we can discuss them as teams. Be prepared to discuss your concepts and begin work. Planning to have a tutorial on Wednesday in After Effects for you. Check out Lynda. com to see how to get started importing video or photos or art. Must have a storyboard of at least 10-12 frames in order to discuss your concept.

Be able to answer these questions:
Which video area are you planning to work on? The small video area or the large room video area? or both? What is your overall strategy.
How do you plan to arrive at your final video?
How long do you plan your video to be?
Music? Found video? Your own video?
Video stock house video that you purchase?

The "MODACYCLE" Exhibition

Take a good long and investigative look at the information that ai3/MODA is sharing with you. This is confidential material so be aware.

Look at the quotes they are going to use in the museum.
Look at the colors they are using. Look at the motorcycles themselves and all their names are listed in case you want to create an animation with those instead of video.
Look at the space and perhaps you can play with the scale of your images on the video screen. It's an environment so be aware of the entire exhibition. Your work will be a part of that environment so think poetically as you prepare.

Some Poster Inspiration

Make sure you check out: http://saulbass.tv/

Inspired by the heroic rescue of the 33 trapped Chilean miners, graphic designer Adam Campbell whipped up this fantastic movie poster. I got in touch with Adam to ask him about his background and his story behind this poster.

"My name is Adam Campbell, and I'm a Canadian web & print designer currently living in Huntsville, Alabama, USA with my wife Anna. I've always been enamored with design that involves re-creation (collage) or de-creation ("vintagization"). Aside from this poster, I'm also responsible for the vintage LOST "Dharma" ads that were released last year.
"The inspiration for the poster just struck me yesterday morning, as I thought about what a dramatic and ultimately heroic situation it had become. I was inspired by those guys and their rescuers, and I thought it would be very cool to capture that drama in a medium that is really familiar to our culture: film. Of course, I wanted it to be vintage-y too :) I'm also considering on extending this to a series of pieces (very periodic however) all based on current dramatic headlines, and all, hopefully, with happy endings.
"I get most of my inspiration from old books and movies, and of course other designers from the past 40 years, from Saul Bass to Ralph McQuarrie to Olly Moss. And my biggest motivation is just out of pure enjoyment... I love the process, the nit-picking, and the amazement when something cool comes out - I always think "How the heck did that happen?"

Noma Bar is a man of few strokes. But don’t let the simplicity fool you. His talent lies in his efficiency in depicting characters and social issues. With bold colors, shapes and one or two icons he captures the spirit of a person. Other times he communicates a message on a social issue with amazing clarity while adding a bit of humor to everything. Whether the message is about violence or equality, his straight-forward visual approach is refreshing.

Cinematography and Storytelling: A Prelude to the MODA Project

Here are several"Coming Home" videos for DEDON that allude or suggest the product they are advertising. It suggest more lifestyle than product.
The first film is by Bruce Weber who is mostly famous for his Abercrombie & Fitch and Hollister catalogs as well as the films he produces for the stores. He is also credited for many of the Versace and Calvin Klein campaigns over the years. He definitely has his own point of view and style.

The MODA Teams

I hope the presentation that Joe Remling gave on Wednesday and the upcoming field trip to MODA on Wednesday January 26th at 12noon will assist you in your preparations for this wonderful video design project. It's the real deal and very exciting.

This Monday in class we'll go over the weekend poster design projects and talk about the trip to the new MODA building across from the High Museum of Art next Wednesday. Bring your cameras/video cameras and whatever else you wish but do make sure you show up as we walk through the exhibition space.

Here are the individual design teams for the MODA project. Please get with you team to start brainstorming as soon as you can. I will gather more information as we move into the project but please think independently of what the client is giving to all of us.
